Spots That Show Up In Carpet Cleaning

Act fast! Many carpet cleaning solution are stain-resistant, and can be treated immediately to remove spills. No carpet is stainproof. Give them a double punch to eliminate spots. Pretreating and spotting allow you to break up problem soil before starting the general cleaning. These are different from general cleaning, as the soils used in these processes differ from those found in typical carpet soil. The soil is different in terms of both type and amount. Spots can be caused by foreign substances tracked onto or spilled over the carpet.

The shape and size of the spot will indicate its origin and cause. If the spot has a geometric shape, it is unlikely to be a spill. Instead, it may have been transferred from another object, like a mahogany round chair leg. Uneven spots may indicate spills. Spots that form a straight line are a sign of dripping. The composition and time needed to remove the substance will be determined by the thickness or depth.

Don’t be too eager when you are cleaning up stains or spills. Mix the cleaning products according to the directions. It’s not true that more is better. Keep the carpet as dry and clean as possible. Always pretest any spot-removal agent on a small, inconspicuous patch of carpet. This will ensure that the solution won’t damage the dye or fiber. After applying a few drops of solution to the test area, place a clean white cloth over the wet area and hold it for 10 second. Examine the carpet with the cloth to check for color transfer. If the carpet color changes, a different cleaning solution must be used.

Rinse the area with cold, running water after the spill. Blot the surface with a dry towel until the entire solution is removed. Some cleaning solutions can cause soiling quickly if they are not removed completely. To clean the area, apply a half-inch layer of white paper towel and press it down using a flat heavy object. Continue to use new paper towels whenever necessary.
